April Fools Day may be a day full of practical jokes, but there’s no joking around when it comes to showcasing the top chefs around the Grand Strand at The Myrtle Beach Hospitality Association’s 13th Annual Trio Dinner. Strong Waters Craft Cocktails & Kitchen is excited to be participating in this delicious event that will take place at 6:30 pm in the heart of Myrtle Beach at theSheraton Myrtle Beach Convention Center Hotel.
The Trio Dinner was an event created to promote culinary arts in Horry County and give students seeking a career in the culinary industry a chance to gain real-world experience. During this event, they’re not only able to put into action they’ve learned, but they’re given a unique opportunity to unleash their creativity to create an original dish with the help of an executive chef. Strong Waters Bar enjoys participating in this event because not only are we able to show off our culinary skills, but the event itself gives back to our Grand Strand community. Proceeds from the Trio Dinner go towards the Myrtle Beach Area Hospitality Association Scholarship funds for Hospitality and Culinary education in our local schools.
As part of a culinary mentorship program, the ‘trio’ of the Trio Dinner is a team comprised of a high school student, college student and executive chef. The high school students are from the Academy of Technology and Academics and the college students are from the International Culinary Institute of Myrtle Beach at Horry-Georgetown Technical College. The team works together to showcase their skills to create and serve unique dishes. Not only will there be dishes to sample, but each of the executive chefs will have a chance to create one special dish that will be judged for the ‘Best Dish’ and ‘People’s Choice’ awards.
Besides samples of delicious cuisine from top chefs in the Myrtle Beach area, attendees can expect to dine on hors d’oeuvres from Grand Strand Provisions and sip on cocktails from the various cocktail bars. Live entertainment for the event will be featuring the sounds of U-N-I Jazz. There will also be a silent auction with proceeds going towards hospitality educational programming.
Last year we prepared two dishes; one used a juicy Pork Belly and the other involved freshly seared Ahi Tuna with a southern twist. Although we didn’t take home any awards, our Ahi Tuna dish was definitely a hit amongst the crowd. We’re still crafting and experimenting in the kitchen with what dish we’re going to compete with this year.
